Heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne has passed away, just weeks after reuniting with his Black Sabbath bandmates for a massive farewell performance.
In a heartfelt statement, his family shared:"It is with more sadness than words can express that we announce the passing of our beloved Ozzy Osbourne this morning. He was surrounded by family and love in his final moments."
Less than three weeks ago, Osbourne performed a powerful final concert at Villa Park, appearing on stage seated on a throne. Addressing the crowd, he said:"You've no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart."
The show featured a lineup of artists handpicked by Osbourne, including Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, marking the 76-year-old's final farewell to fans.
A pioneering force in heavy metal, Osbourne rose to fame with Black Sabbath, helping define a genre with legendary tracks such as Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs, and Changes. He also achieved massive success as a solo artist with hits like Crazy Train.
Beyond music, Osbourne became a cultural figure through the early 2000s MTV reality series The Osbournes, which offered a candid look at his family life in Los Angeles with his wife Sharon and their children, Kelly and Jack.
Known as much for his wild antics as for his music, he famously bit the head off a bat on stage—one of many stories from his hard-living rock star years.
Osbourne had faced significant health challenges in recent years, including Parkinson’s disease and complications from a fall in 2019. These health issues forced him to cancel several tours. Despite this, he made a surprise appearance in 2022 to close the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and was determined to give fans a proper send-off, which his wife Sharon described as the “perfect farewell.”
Throughout his career, Osbourne received numerous honors. He was inducted into both the UK Music Hall of Fame and the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—each time as both a solo artist and a member of Black Sabbath. He also earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and another on Birmingham’s Broad Street.
His accolades include five Grammy Awards from 12 nominations, an Ivor Novello Award, NME’s Godlike Genius award, and Classic Rock’s Living Legend prize.
Ozzy Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, their children Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, and his older children Jessica and Louis from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, as well as several grandchildren.
